The Sahara Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is closing it’s doors forever on May 16th. The hotel that played host to such legends as Sinatra and The Rat Pack has been losing money for some time now and SBE Entertainment Group, who owns the property, will be closing the 55-year old property. “The continued operation of the aging Sahara was no longer economically viable,” Sahara Chief Executive Sam Nazarian said in a statement.
The closure will mean over 1000 Sahara employees will lose their jobs.
It’s seen the entire rise and fall of the Las Vegas legend unfold, and its loss will be, in many ways, a sad sign of a once-great desert oasis kingdom returning, slowly, to the very sands from which it came.
